Can men apply henna on hands

Question: There is a custom of giving henna on hands in our society. When the time of Eid comes, besides women, many men are seen giving henna on their hands. Many men also use henna during weddings. My question is, what is the provision of henna in the hands of men in Sharia?

Answer: Men cannot use henna on their hands, feet and nails for decoration purposes. Because henna is a type of dye. And according to Shariah, it is forbidden for men to use colors. On the authority of Hazrat Abu Huraira (R.A.), he said, Rasulullah (S.A.W.) said, "A man's perfume will be such that its scent is revealed and its color is hidden."

And the fragrance of women will be such, whose color is revealed but the scent is hidden. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2787) According to the commentary of the hadith, men cannot use colors for adornment. In several other hadiths men are forbidden to use colors for adornment. But men can use henna on hair and beard. Similarly, men can use henna for medical purposes—regardless of the organ. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2341; Raddul Muhtar: 6/422)
